LUBRICANTS

Vegetable oils were once widely used for lubrication fluids; but today, petroleum-derived mineral oils have largely supplanted vegetable oils. The interest in renewable raw materials prepares a comeback of the vegetable oils, specially for applications such as "lost" lubrication in chainsaws, lawn mowers, and lubrication of the well shaft of irrigation wells. The development of additives adapted to the vegetable oil basis instead of using the commonly available additives from the mineral oil equivalents, seems to be the secret. Sulfurised fatty products have improved stability to oxidation and heat.
