OILED FABRICS

Oils were used in two ways in oilcloth: the entire cloth could be impregnated or only one side of the cloth could be coated. Impregnated cloth was used in raincoats, tents and coverings for machines and instruments. Coated oilcloth was used as coverings for walls, tables, shelves, and other surfaces. The polymerised oil gave water resistance with flexibility.
